Importance of Stretching - Whole New View

Stretching: Here is a first step we can all do when trying to motivate ourselves to become more involved with Health & Fitness. Start your training program here. Stretching is highly important, useful and vital to the construct of the human anatomy. So much so, that the designer and Creator of this endless marvel has built it into our nature as an involuntary act. The average person stretches as needed 95 percent of the time with little to no awareness that he or she is even doing it. It is such a key function that God didn't even leave it up to us to make sure it happened. Sure, we can choose to stretch when we want, but we do not need to be so actively involved each time such movement is needed or necessary.

Now I'm not speaking of the kind of stretching one does before or after a workout or training session. Nor am I referring to the times that it is necessary because of a cramp or soreness. I am only identifying your common everyday stretch. The stretch you do prior to standing up from watching TV during the commercials, or getting up from your desk at work or even getting up first thing in the morning. However, such stretches can be incorporated into your daily or weekly training plan. I strongly encourage you to become more actively involved in common everyday stretching. Add these stretches to your Health & Fitness plan. Why? Well, first of all, they are easy to do. You don't need any fancy equipment or fitness training tools. Secondly, they can be done anywhere. I do mean anywhere. No one will be any the wiser, suspect or lost as to your 'curious' behavior. And thirdly they are not time consuming in any fashion.

But what's the most important reason? What takes place, what happens on the inside, when you find your self needing to stretch? Well, when do you find yourself needing to stretch the most? When you're tired and needing to stay awake, when you've sat still for too long, when your muscles ache, twitch or fall asleep & even when you first wake up in the morning. This is because stretching stimulates muscle, it improves your breathing which helps to oxygenate the blood, it increases blood flow to the brain and it helps to increase your heart rate. It also strengthens and relaxes muscle and improves body composition and stature. Have you ever noticed when becoming tired you feel compelled to yawn? Yawning is a stretch and it helps to oxygenate the blood and increase flow to the brain. There is a 'monitoring control center' that keeps track of certain functions in the body. When the nervous system relates back to the brain that these functions are operating below their proper levels ... you yawn. So I say all of this to encourage you to stretch more often. Do it on purpose, do it knowing what you're doing, but by all means do it. It's a great start to the best workout.

Exercise Ideas for Asthmatics

Five Best Exercise Ideas for Asthmatics Do you want (or need!) to get more active, but you find yourself coughing, wheezing and so out of breath you have to stop and go back to your television program? You may have what doctors refer to as exercise-induced asthma. Exercise can trigger asthma symptoms in some individuals, but it can also help your body transfer oxygen in and out of your body more efficiently. Studies have shown that individuals who are overweight tend to have more trouble controlling their asthma than those who keep their weight to recommended levels. The key to exercising with asthma is to take a few precautions before you begin. Here are five ideas to consider before you begin your new exercise program:
1. First, consider the type of exercise that might work best for you. It is thought that exercise may trigger asthma attacks by exposing the lungs to cold, dry air. Our noses function to warm and humidify the air that we breathe in, but when we exercise, we tend to breathe through our mouths. Sports that involve prolonged constant activity or that take place in cold weather may cause more problems than other activities. Sports that may make your asthma worse include soccer, hockey, basketball, and long distance running. Sports that tend to be better for asthmatics include swimming, walking, football, and golfing because they involve shorter bursts of energy. Swimming in indoor pools can be particularly good because the air around the pool tends to be heated and humidified.
2. Talk to your doctor about using inhaled corticosteroids prior to exercise. A recent study by Dr. Hans Haverkamp published in the July 2007 issue of Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that using inhaled corticosteroids prior to exercise improved pulmonary gas exchange and performance and may increase arterial oxygenation.
3. Singulair (montelukast) has also recently been found to have a preventative effect for asthmatics when taken two hours before exercise and may last for up to 24 hours.
4. Use a short-acting albuterol inhaler (like Proventil or Ventolin) about ten minutes prior to exercising and carry the inhaler with you at all times. Remember, long-acting bronchodilators (like Serevent), inhaled corticosteroids and Singulair only help to prevent asthma attacks--they won't help you improve your breathing when you are having an acute asthma attack.
5. Drink plenty of water, especially on warm days. Warm up slowly and cool down slowly when exercising.

P90X Right For You?

Is P90X Right For You? You've seen the infomercial and wondered if P90X really works or is it just another fly by night program that you will buy and be disappointed in like so many other weight loss and fitness programs. I'm here to tell you that this program works, but it will take commitment and dedication on your part. The P90X system is unlike any other fitness program out there. This is considered to be an extreme fitness program and it is not for everybody. If you have a serious amount of weight to lose or have not worked out in 10 years or longer this may not be the program for you. When I began the program I was approximately 80 pounds overweight and had made several attempts over the past three years to start a fitness program and get back control over my health. I jumped into the program and it I couldn't be happier. At the time of this writing I have lost 60 pounds using P90X. What I loved about this program is the variety of workouts. You will do a different workout everyday and that was exactly what I was looking for. I've tried other programs where you do the same workout everyday and maybe two different workouts in a week. The variety was key for me to stick to the program.

P90X was designed around the principle of muscle confusion. Basically you are changing your routine about every three weeks so that your body never gets used to doing the same routine and therefore you never experience the plateau effect and will continue to gain strength over the course of the ninety day program. Depending on which version you want to try you will do three resistance workouts, two cardio workouts, and one yoga workout every week. As far as equipment you will need to begin P90X, you will need dumbbells or resistance bands, a pull-up bar or a way to simulate pull-ups using the resistance bands, and a yoga mat. People often ask how much weight they will need. This all depends on your strength. I use anywhere from 5-45 pounds and need more weight on a few of the exercises. I favor adjustable dumbbells so I don't have to invest a lot of space to store all of my weights. The best thing is you can get a world class workout in the comfort of your home.

The program claims you can get ripped in ninety days and to have any chance at accomplishing this you must follow the nutrition plan. Diet is 80% of the program. There is a specific nutrition guide that comes along with P90X. There are three phases to the plan where you change the portions of your food intake approximately every thirty days. You start out with high protein and very low carbohydrates and work your way up to more carbs and less protein. P90X comes with a fit test to take to see if you are ready for the challenge. Obviously, you don't want to buy the program and then find out that you are not ready. You can do an internet search for "P90X fit test" and you will find it online. I would also suggest consulting your physician before beginning P90X or any other fitness program.

Digestive Disorder Chinese Herbal Prescription

The term digestive disorder in Chinese medicine includes: indigestion, gases, stomach pains, minor ulcer, acid reflux, lack of appetite, sensitivity to certain kinds of food, diarrhea, constipation, etc. They are all symptoms of a digestive system not performing well. Treating the symptoms individually only results in temporary relief but cannot reduce their occurrence, not to mention eliminating them. The Chinese approach involves nourishing the digestive system back to health with some patience required.
Nature of common digestive disorder:
• Multiple symptoms usually occur with different intensity.
• Some symptoms occur more often than others.
• Symptoms usually disrupt the person's eating habit.
• The disruption of eating habit in turn may aggravate the symptoms, causing a downward spiral.
Causes of common digestive disorder:
• Irregular eating habit.
• Over-consumption of food especially spicy, greasy or sour type.
• Too restrictive a diet making the stomach extra fragile and sensitive.
• Stresses at work or at home. Food is by no means the only cause.
• Digestive disorder tends to be a delayed or uncertain reaction, so it's hard to know which is the real cause.
The digestive system is one of the most sensitive organs deserving special attention for good maintenance. Being neglected, it can give you a lot of troubles. If you eat the wrong kind of food, your digestive system can vomit on you right away or give you diarrhea later. It may make you feel terrible the rest of the day. If your digestive system is weak, an unpleasant event or circumstance can trigger some kind of disorder or aggravate existing ones. Most people who suffer from digestive disorder have an irregular eating habit, usually eating meals at irregular times, or eating while working. Another common habit is eating too much at one time and not at all some other times. These create undue pressure on the digestive system and disrupt its natural functional rhythm. The symptoms you get are just the reactions of your digestive system telling you that it is not happy with your way of eating. Therefore the first step is to cultivate a normal regular eating habit. To put it simply, devote some time to sitting down and enjoying regular meals with a moderate quantity of food.

On the other hand, too much attention given to the digestive system tends to create the same kind of disorder. Many people are sensitive to various kinds of food, resulting in a long list of "foods to avoid". One thing they may not notice is that this long list will perpetuate the existing sensitivity of the digestive system, making it even more fragile, not stronger. One way to break this downward spiral is to gradually build up more strength into the digestive system. How? This can be done by slowly increasing the variety of food intake. Eat just a little bit of those foods you avoid for some reason. This won't kill you. You will be surprised that your stomach can be trained to accept new foods little by little. The goal is to cut down the sensitivity and bring back the robustness of your digestive system so that you can enjoy as many kinds of food as possible, and consequently, enhancing your nutrition and your health. The Chinese approach emphasizes the strengthening of the digestive system rather than trying to tackle the individual disorder symptoms. There is a special term called "Yang Wei", which means to nourish the stomach. When the digestive system becomes more robust and able to handle an increasing variety of food, the disorder symptoms will occur less and less frequent. The following herbal package is recommended:
1) Strengthen stomach and intestines : Dang Shen, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, Gan Cao, Sha Ren, Mu Xiang, Bai Kou Ren
2) Strengthen liver: Long Dan Cao, Gou Qi Zi
3) Help digestion: Zhi Shi, Fu Pi
4) Reduce gas : Qing Pi, Ban Xia
A total of 13 herbs are used.
Drink one cup (8 oz) of herb tea a day, preferably in the morning to allow time for the herbs to work its way through.
This is just one formula with countless variations depending on:
* How accurate the herbalist understands the root cause.
* How sensitive is your stomach to the herbs.

Acidosis and Disease How Do You Help Dehydration

How Do You Help Dehydration - Acidosis and Disease? The first step to creating an inner terrain where disease and illness cannot flourish is by drinking alkaline water. Alkaline water has excellent hydrating benefits. Not only does taste good, but it gives your body and cells negative electrons helping to detoxify the body and remove acidic waste. Drinking this water is effective and easy way to detoxify your body and help slow down the aging process. Antioxidants help the body to fight disease, and alkaline water from an alkalizer machine is the best source of antioxidants. For over two decades, the Japanese have been enjoying the benefits of alkaline water. People are now discovering the amazing benefits of this water and the technology. There are many scientific pages about alkaline water on the Internet and many people's testimonials as to these health benefits. Ionized water is significant, has health-enhancing benefits not shared by standard tap, filtered water, RO, or distilled waters. An alkalizer machine produces water between 9.0 and 9.5 alkaline (pH) which is ideal for daily consumption and produces millions of negative electrons in the water that scavenge free radicals in our bodies.

Ionized water is revolutionizing the health industry worldwide and is a determining factor between health and disease is pH. Normal cells must maintain a slightly alkaline pH level and live in an alkaline environment. Drinking alkaline water is an excellent way for hydrating the body, contributing to good health. Health professionals are realizing how alkaline water and an alkaline diet are excellent for maintaining alkalinity, oxygenating, detoxifying, hydrating, alkalizing your body and achieving good health. A water alkalizer machine provides a rich source of alkaline minerals for the body to maintain proper pH balance. Trace minerals are important nutrients the body needs, yet mineral deficiency is way too common. Reverse osmosis and distilled waters are actually causing mineral deficiency in the body over time. There are no minerals in those waters plus they are acidic! Other benefits of drinking alkaline water is that it assists in the absorption of minerals since the water clusters are smaller and more permeable for the body to use. Healthy minerals are saved by the alkalizer machines for assimilation by the body while acidic minerals are discarded. Alkaline water is one of the most significant preventative health advances of our generation. It is a powerful antioxidant, which also provides our body with an abundance of oxygen which in turn gives us energy. It balances our body pH, which helps prevent disease because it is alkaline. It is a powerful detoxifier, and more hydrating than conventional water. Ionized water is the best source for detoxification. It does not treat or cure any disease and is not a medicine, but if consumed regularly, alkaline water reduces the acidic waste in the liver, kidneys and colon, allowing a natural health improvement. This is just the an initial step to help create an inner terrain where disease and illness cannot flourish.

Salt Water Colon Cleanse Tips

There are many methods available to cleanse and detoxify your colon, but the easiest one to do is the salt water colon cleanse. Also known as the 'salt water flush', it completely cleanses not only the colon, but also other organs in the gastrointestinal tract. In other words, it cleanses the entire digestive system. This cleansing treatment helps to remove toxins, feces, accumulated waste and other dangerous elements in the digestive system.

Other methods such as laxatives, special medicines synthesized for that purpose, mixes and even enemas may seem to be more effective, but the salt water cleanse will do the job just as well at a fraction of the cost. Using simple ingredients which are available from any kitchen, the cost of this method is very inexpensive. The steps to perform a salt water colon cleanse is very easy and simple. All you have to do is to just skip a meal. Many people usually do this colon cleansing in the morning, on weekends when they have more free time and are not tied up with anything important.

For the preparation of the mixture for the salt water cleanse, you need a quart of lukewarm water. Buy sea salt or un-iodized salt. Do not use table salt for this cleansing as it will not have the same effect as the real deal. Mix two or three tablespoons of the salt with the lukewarm water and stir it until the salt has been dissolved. Drink the mixture and wait a few more minutes for the mixture to take effect and cleanse your colon. Massage your stomach and colon or crouch on your knees to loosen and break the waste matter accumulated in the digestive tract. Between half an hour to two hours, you will be able to feel the build-up of pressure in your colon and you may have to defecate more than once. However, if you still cannot feel the need for bowel movement, then you need to drink more water or add more salt to the mixture to cleanse the colon. Before starting this cleanse, it is vital to remember to take probiotic supplements since this salt water cleanse cleanses your whole colon and wipes out the good bacteria located in your colon too. Thus, you need to take the probiotic supplement to restore the good bacteria in your body.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment Recurrent Common Cold

Recurrent Common Cold - Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment The common cold is supposed to be one of the most trivial of ailments, and yet is responsible for significant absences from work and school, both for adults as well as children. While it is common for adults to be affected about 2 - 4 times a year, and for children, about 5 - 10 times a year, there are many who have recurrent common cold, almost daily or every few weeks. Depending upon the severity of symptoms, this affliction may make life miserable for such people. The common cold is termed as "Pratishyaya" in Ayurveda. I shall now discuss the different types of common cold , and their Ayurvedic treatment. The first type of cold is called as "Vataj Pratishyaya", or simply put, the common cold resulting from the disturbed "Vata" Dosha. Common symptoms are: sudden, severe bouts of sneezing; thin watery discharge, severe bodyache and headache. These symptoms are similar to the symptoms of "allergic rhinitis", or common cold caused due to any allergy. Local application of medicated oils, e.g. Vacha (Acorus calamus) oil, may help some patients and give dramatic relief. However, all patients do not respond to this treatment, in fact, this may cause an aggravation in a few patients. Medicated ghee and milk prepared from Pippali (Piper longum), Sunthi (Zinziber officinale) and Dashmool are useful for internal use.

The second type of common cold is "Pittaj Pratishyaya", or common cold resulting from the disturbed "Pitta" Dosha. Symptoms include fever, redness of nose, burning sensation in the nose and head, and yellow or green nasal discharge. These symptoms are more indicative of infection as a cause. The third type is "Raktaj Pratishyaya", in which the symptoms are the same as those for Pittaj Pratishyaya, only more pronounced, and accompanied by nasal bleeding. Medicated oils and ghee prepared from Manuka ( Vitis vinifera - dried grapes ), Vasa ( Adathoda vasika ) , Durva ( Cynodon dactylon ) and Yashtimadhu (Glycerrhiza glabra) are useful in these types ,both for local application and internal use. The fourth type of common cold is "Kaphaj Pratishyaya", or common cold resulting from the disturbed "Kapha" Dosha. Common symptoms are: heaviness in the head; overall drowsiness; thick, white or yellowish discharge from the nose, and prolonged duration of symptoms. These symptoms point to a chronic infection, or sinus inflammation. Local use of Vacha powder as (inhaled) snuff is very useful in this type of common cold.

The fifth type of common cold is "Sannipataj Pratishyaya" and is caused by a combination of all the three Doshas. The symptoms too, are a combination of the vataj, pittaj and kaphaj types and indicate severity of disease. Treatment has to be done according to the predominance of doshas and resulting symptoms. Oral use of Tribhuvankirti, Sanjivani vati , Sitopaladi powder and several single and combination herbs are useful in all types of common cold. However, a detailed history for the symptoms, and in recurrent cases, a detailed study of the constitutional framework of the patient is essential in deciding the ideal combination of medicines for each patient, so as to get maximum results. To prevent or reduce the frequency of recurrence, herbal medicines and compounds containing Haldi (Curcuma longa) and Amla (Emblica officinalis) are useful, mainly to increase immunity. In addition, avoidance of known allergens, breathing exercises like Yogic Pranayam, and special procedures like the Yogic Neti, are also very useful.

Asthma Symptoms Care and Cure

What To Put In Your Asthma Diary How do you know if you're about to have an asthma attack? The answer is plain and simple. Simply pay attention to your symptoms. Asthma rarely occurs without warning so it's best to keep a diary of symptoms to assess your condition. Your asthma diary should be small enough to fit into your purse or pocket so you can take it everywhere. Make it a habit to record everything that happens before an attack. Put the date and the time when the symptom started. Early warning signs of asthma include persistent coughing, chest tightness and tiredness. Others may experience sneezing, a sore throat, or runny nose. Mild asthma is characterized by occasional symptoms that occur up to two times a week. In moderate asthma, these symptoms may be present more often and episodes may last for several days. In severe asthma, the above symptoms are continuous to the point that you can't talk, walk or sleep without being bothered by asthma.

Your asthma diary should also include possible triggers. These are things that cause an attack. Pay attention to your surroundings and take note of the things you did to determine what caused your attack. What was the weather like on that day? What were you doing prior to the attack? Who were you with at that time? What were you eating then? What medicines did you take? How often did you take them? If you feel your bronchodilator isn't working as effectively as before or if your symptoms are getting worse even with medication, that could be a sign that you're not using them properly or you probably need another type of medicine. Discuss this with your doctor. He or she may recommend changes in your treatment. To help you monitor your condition effectively, your doctor may ask you to use a peak flow meter.

A peak flow meter is a small, inexpensive, hand-held device that tells you how well your lungs are functioning. More specifically, it measures the peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) - the highest amount of air that can be forced out of the lungs. Used each morning and evening, it allows you to measure changes in the air flow out of your lungs, discover breathing problems, warn you of a coming asthma attack, identify your asthma triggers, tell you if your medicine is working, and determine when to seek medical help. In effect, the peak flow meter will tell you what's wrong and give you more time to act. Your peak flow readings should be recorded in your asthma diary. Peak flow meters come in a variety of shapes and sizes but they all work the same way. How are they used? Learn about this in the 9th part of our series.

Most Common Food Allergies in Adults?

What is the Most Common Food Allergies in Adults? It does not matter whether you are an adult being diagnosed for the first time or if you have suffered from them since childhood, allergic reaction to food can be a little overwhelming. They don't have to be, though, and once you have been properly diagnosed, you can learn how to manage your food based allergies effectively. One of the first places to begin is answer the question of what is the most common food allergies in adults?
Common Food Related Allergies in Adults When figuring out what is the most common food allergies in adults you first need to look at when the food allergy was originally diagnosed. This is because the most common allergy will differ if you were a child when you were initially diagnosed. If you have carried allergic reactions to food from childhood into adulthood then the most common food allergies would be peanuts, dairy and soy. These three foods usually, but not always, begin in early childhood. Most children usually outgrow these allergies but if you were one of the ones that carried them into adulthood then these, statistically speaking, would be the most common food allergies in adults under these circumstances. If however, you never had any allergies to food as a child your most common food allergies would be a different list. One of the highest percentages of adult onset food related allergies is found towards seafood. This allergy comes on suddenly and you need no history of allergies to suffer from it. Another very common adult onset allergy is wheat. This allergy usually creeps up on the allergy sufferer, it is not as sudden as a seafood allergy. This is why many adults suffer from allergies to food for years before it is properly diagnosed.
Getting Properly Diagnosed Often times it takes longer for adult to be diagnosed with an allergic reaction to food because the symptoms often times mimic other problems. For example, many allergy sufferers feel run down constantly so doctors tend to look at things like thyroid problems or perhaps chronic fatigue syndrome first. If you think you may be suffering from a food allergy seek out the expertise of an allergist. They can run comprehensive tests including blood test or even skin prick testing. Either one of these will help you find out which foods you are allergic to.
Treatment Options Unfortunately, for adults suffering from food related allergies, there is no known cure for them. Many clinical studies are being done to see if allergy shots will someday be effective on this type of allergies but there is no "breakthrough" on the horizon. The only sure fire way to reduce your allergies is by completely avoiding the foods you are allergic to.

Powerful Allergy Relief - From Healthy Lifestyle To Online Pharmacy Meds

Powerful Allergy Relief - From Healthy Lifestyle To Online Pharmacy Meds : Do furry animals give you the creeps? Or does eating seafood give you the itch? If you answered yes to one or both, you may be suffering from some form of allergy. It happens when your immune system decides to do an overkill or an exaggerated response against unknown substances that enter or come into contact with your body. In the United States and Canada alone, surveys show that there are about fifty million people suffering from one or more forms of allergy. That translates to at least $10 billion in annual costs spent for patient support, natural treatment methods, and medicines from drugstores or any online pharmacy. But as always, prevention is the best way to fight off allergies. Here are a few pointers that you should squeeze into your lifestyle if you want to avoid hellish allergic reactions.

Know What You Eat
Food can be the biggest cause for allergic reactions. If this happens to you, it will be a good idea to keep a diary and record every morsel that passes into your mouth. Then, by simple process of elimination, you will be able to come up with a list of the foodstuff that make you sick. The next thing you do is totally eliminate such foods from your diet. If you have allergic reactions to certain foods, you have to think twice about eating corn, eggs, chocolate, dairy products and nuts because these are some of the worst causes of allergies. Also, be on the lookout for all types of food preservatives and food coloring.
Clean Up Your Surroundings Allergic reactions can also be brought about by microscopic objects that pervade in the air and the overall condition of your surroundings. To prevent allergic reactions from occurring, you need to keep your house free from dirt and dust. Also, remember to keep your pets outdoors; animal dander is one of the worst triggers for allergies.
Get A Boost With Supplements And Medications You can defeat allergic reactions by boosting the functioning of your immune system. For instance, substances called flavonoids can help your body in deactivating over-eager immune responder cells, which are the main trigger cells for your allergies. Flavonoids are mostly found in citrus fruits. Another popular alternative in keeping allergies at bay is probiotics. By helping your body restore and strengthen the presence of good bacteria in your stomach, you help your body flush out rotten and toxic food residues inside your digestive tract; this will result in better immune system functioning and suppression of your allergic reactions. Alternative cures for allergies can be found anywhere, including any online pharmacy. Various meds can also help you deal with allergies. Consult with your doctor about what types of anti-allergic pills may be suitable for you. And remember that you do not need to go out the door and risk being exposed to unwanted objects and particles; you can always buy your cure from an online pharmacy.

Allergies Affecting Skin Lungs and Eyes - Causes and Remedies

Causes and Remedies of Allergies Affecting Skin, Lungs and Eyes : An allergy is said to be a condition in which any part of the body is un-naturally sensitive to external elements like dust, pollen, temperature difference, chemicals, sound, light etc. The reaction of the body is the result of our immune system alerted about the presence of external factors. It is to be noted that external factors are not the reason of allergies. Many people are exposed to dust, smoke, quick temperature changes etc. Only the persons who are allergic react strongly to the external factors. Some children are born with allergies, while most allergies are acquired over time. Sometimes the allergens are easily avoided. Certain food items, chemicals etc come under this category. There are times when the person is accidentally or compulsorily exposed to the allergens.

The root cause of allergies lies in the food habits of a person. A person taking food items that are not easily digested and absorbed by the body compromises on the effective utilization of the food he or she eats. Incomplete digestion of food causes accumulation of bodily waste called ama in different parts of the body. This ama turns toxic and is called amavisha. This amavisha reduces immune capacity of a person and causes the person to respond strongly to external stimuli like dust, pollen and changes in climate in a violent manner. In fact the allergens react with the toxic wastes of the body. This strong reaction is what we call allergy and the stimulants that cause the reaction - allergens. Ayurvedic body cleansing therapies like panchakarma, specialized massage therapies etc are the best solutions for allergies. If the bodily wastes are accumulated on skin, an allergen can cause rashes and inflammations. With digestive system, it can lead to diarrhea. With respiratory system, it causes mucus. Here are a few quick tips to fight allergy Since food is the starting point, one needs to take a critical look at his or her daily diet. Avoid cold food items. Cold food items are hard to digest. Eat warm food items. Too hot food items are also not good.

Eat food items that are easily digestible. Replace meat with seafood. Don't eat stored or refrigerated food. Prepare food before the meals time only. Don't keep the food in refrigerator to be used on the following day. Include spices like turmeric, coriander, ginger, fennel, etc in your food. These spices have detoxifying effects. Don't eat after sunset. The body has a natural cleansing process starting from midnight and lasting through mid day. Don't interfere with this cleaning process. Eating after 10 pm will cause accumulation of more bodily wastes. Practicing yoga can help. Different yoga meditation postures and pranayama techniques have good detoxification capabilities built in.

Get Rid Of Your Allergies Now Simple Tips and Tricks

People have different reactions to a wide variety of things. Some people may develop hives when eating seafood, while others catch colds when exposed to dust and pollen. There are also individuals who are allergic to almost anything, while there are some who are very lucky because they do not display adverse reactions to most common allergens. Basically, an allergy is your defense system's reaction to ordinary things that surround you. Thus, you are developing rashes when you eat shrimps, for example, because your immune system thinks that such food is harmful for you. If you are one of those who are bugged and bothered by a wide variety of allergic reactions to even the most common things, then you know how hard and annoying it is to experience allergic reactions. But if you do not ever want to experience having rashes, hives, cough and colds due to allergens, then you should read and follow the tips below:

Know What Triggers Your Allergic Attack One of the first things you need to discover is the thing that causes your allergic reactions. If you keep sneezing when you are near a dog, then you might be allergic to dog dander. You should also pay attention to what you are eating so you will know if certain types of food give you adverse reactions. The most common allergens include pollen, insect stings, medicines, pet dander, food, dust mites and even mold spores. A faster way to know what causes your sneezing and other allergic reactions is taking an allergy skin test. However, for people who have severe skin disorders or those who take certain medications, taking skin test for allergies is not usually advised because it might trigger a serious reaction that could be even more harmful.

Keep Away From Things That Trigger Your Attack The most sensible approach to preventing an allergic reaction is to stay away from allergens, or the things that cause such reactions. If you are allergic to dust, then you should always keep your place clean. If you know that you are going to a place where it is dusty and dirty, you should arm yourself with a cloth to cover and protect your nose and mouth so you won't be able to inhale harmful substances. You should also ask for the help of your friends and family in combating your allergy woes. If you have food allergies, it would be advisable to tell your family and friends right away so that they will not be serving meals or snacks that contain whatever it is that gives you adverse reactions. Reading the labels of food that you buy from the grocery or supermarket is also very important. If you are still unsure what is causing your sneezing and cough, then it might be a good idea to keep away from furry pets, such as dogs, cats, mice, and guinea pigs. Be content about taking care of fishes and turtles just to be on the safe side.

Do The Detox One alternative therapy for getting rid of some allergic reactions is through detoxification programs. Many alternative practitioners believe that most allergic reactions are due to proliferation of wastes and toxins inside the gut and intestines. This is particularly true for people who develop allergies during adulthood. There are many ways to do colon and digestive system cleansing. One is by getting into the raw food diet, wherein you are only allowed to eat uncooked food, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Some cleansing programs require people to just drink fruit juices and salt water.

Nasal Allergy A Chinese Herbal Prescription

Nasal Allergy - A Chinese Herbal Prescription To make the prescription effective, you have to use the right approach. Conventional wisdom involves identifying a list of irritants such as pollens, dust, even your pets that you are allergic to. This is an endless process because you can always find new things you are allergic to if you start digging further. The right approach should be to make your respiratory system robust enough so that you won't be irritated by all the environmental disturbances such as pollens, dust, seasonal changes, pets' hair, etc. If you don't believe in this approach, just look at other family members or your neighbors. They all live in the same environment as you. Not all of them have your allergies. Why? Is it because the pollens dislike you? The root cause is your own internal weakness, especially your respiratory system, which cannot tolerate the pollen disturbance. If you can turn your system not a robust one, you don't need to worry so much about environmental irritants. It's just like good health will always lead to less illness. An effective herbal prescription should strengthen your respiratory system, and reduce your allergy symptoms at the same time.
1) To strengthen your respiratory system, use:
Bai Bu
Zi Wan
Bai Qian
Bai Ji
Bai He
Jie Geng
2) To reduce your allergy symptoms such as cough, dry throat, mucus, nasal congestion, headache, even some swelling, use:
Zhe Bei Mu
Zi Su Ye
Fang Feng
Jing Jie
Xiang Ru
Gao Ben
A combination of 12 herbs mentioned above will do. Drink one to two cups (8 oz each) of herb tea a day. After taking the herbs, your allergy may still flare up sometimes, but the frequency and the intensity will be reduced until becoming insignificant. Since the allergy prescription strengthens your respiratory system, the best time to take it is before the allergy season to allow time for the strengthening effect to work. This is just one formula with countless variations depending on:
* Severity and nature of the allergy based on observation and discussion of the problem with the herbalist.
* How weak are your lungs and respiratory system based on pulse reading and judgment of the herbalist.

Allergies Allergens and Carpets

Understanding Allergens and Carpets :
Bear in mind that even though carpets can be a refuge for many people who have carpet allergies, except if you have failed to clean it on a regular basis the carpet is typically not the root of the problem for many allergic reactions. Carpets in fact perform similar to a filter which traps the allergens from the air and holds them down in the floor area. A minute number of people indeed have a carpet allergy to certain kinds of carpet or even to the fumes that come from having new carpet in your home. The good news is that the general populations of people have no carpet allergies when their homes are kept clean. Listed below is a compilation of many of the most typical household carpet allergies that could be present in your home. Traditionally, these allergens are normally present in your carpet yet you can lower the effect of them by finding out additional information to handle them.
Carpet Dust Mites More than any other reason for being sick, when it comes to allergies are the dust mites that are hiding in your carpet and its fibers. These mites are so tiny that you cannot see them with the naked eye, so it can be difficult to tell if there are dust mites, when you are looking for an allergy carpet treatment. Dust mites are so named because they can actually live in a dust particle due to their small sizes. Disgustingly, a dust mite will be able to survive by eating any skin that you have shed from your body and it also lives on nourishment of the dusts that they will eat.
Pet Dander We all know that pets will shed and lose their fur all day, everyday but these loose pieces of fur and any skin that is also shed is what makes up the core of pet dander. Similar to the carpet dust mites, the pet dander are also very tiny is size and impossible to see. They do however, become attached to any of the carpet fibers in your rugs. For those individuals who decide to do without a carpet, they can become even sick than a carpet owner because each step that they take will simply make the pet dander become airborne. Once it is in the air, it is much easier for you to become ill when you inhale them through your nose and/or mouth.
Pollen Pollen is a word that in Latin it is defined as dust or fine flour. Pollen by itself can be a very small powder with a yellow grained consistency that adds fertilization to a plant that has flowers. Pollen can cause an extreme allergic reaction because it is created by a plant which has been pollinated when the wind moves the air and carries the pollen from plant to plant. Since pollens can ride on the air caused by the wind, you can easily find that pollen is part of your everyday life in your home. At different times of the year you can find that pollen is better or worse depending on the seasons and atmosphere around it. Like a pets dander and dust mites, you can find that it is almost impossible to eliminate pollen from the inside atmosphere of your house. Like the others, pollen can definitely be the source of your constant carpet allergies. You can however, work hard to ensure that these carpet allergies are kept to a minimum.

Mental Illness Reasons for Occurrence

Reasons for Occurrence of Mental Illness The occurrence of mental illness can be caused by different factors or a combination of these several factors. Different explanations are offered by different schools of thought, such as biological, psychological or social explanations for causing mental illness. Current theories however, have mostly acknowledged that all three contribute in varying amounts to a person’s mental ill-health. Many psychiatric diseases can be classified as syndromes, or the association of several clinically recognizable features that do not always have a single cause.

The currently most popular explanation for mental illness is biological explanations. It believes that a person suffering from mental illness may exhibit a difference in brain structure or function or in neurochemistry, either through genetic or environmental vulnerabilities. Research findings for example, have shown that people with schizophrenia have enlarged ventricles and reduced gray matter in the brain. In addition, other studies have also found that imbalance in neurotransmitters could also play a factor in causing mental illness. Studies have focused on the neurotransmitters dopamine, nor epinephrine, and serotonin. If these chemicals are out of balance or may not be working properly, messages sent to the brain may not be sent correctly leading to symptoms of mental illness.

Problems in mental conditions may also be caused by injury to certain areas of the brain.
Moreover, many genetic studies have showed strong evidence that mental illness can be inherited, such as in the cases of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Many mental illnesses have been found to run in a family, which suggests that people with a mentally ill family member are more likely to develop mental illness as well. Experts link mental illness to abnormalities in many genes, and not just one. It is possible that a person who has inherited a susceptibility to this illness may not develop the illness. The occurrence of mental illness comes from the interaction of multiple genes and other factors such as stress, traumatic event, or abuse, which can trigger an illness in a person who has inherited genes susceptible to it. Brain damage and the development of mental illness had also been found to have been caused by certain infections. For instance, a condition known as pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorder (PANDA) has been closely associated with the Streptococcus bacteria, linked to the development of certain mental illnesses in children.

Home Remedy For Bladder Infection

A bladder infection is caused when bacteria get into this area of the urinary tract. It is also commonly known as cystitis. This affects women more than men because the length of the urethra is shorter, therefore allowing bacteria from the outside to cause infection. Symptoms of a bladder infection can include any of the following: pain in the area of the bladder and pain during urination. There may also be a frequent urge to urinate even if there is no urine to pass. The urine itself may appear cloudy or foul smelling, or there maybe blood in the urine. In some people with a bladder infection there are no symptoms at all. Conventional treatments involve the use of a course of antibiotics to kill the bacteria. These are generally very effective but some people are now trying to limit their intake of prescription medicines and other women have reported that antibiotic use has led to them getting thrush. This has led to many people seeking a home remedy for bladder infections. A natural alternative to antibiotics is Cranberry juice or cranberry juice extract. The beneficial effect of cranberry juice for urinary tract infections is in part due in part to the presence of hippuric acid, a compound with antibiotic activity. Cranberry juice also contains a compound that can prevent bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder and urinary tract and growing in this area. Cranberry juice is readily available although some people do not like the taste. For those a supplement containing cranberry extract maybe more appropriate.

The sufferer of urinary tract infection can also take support measures. Increased fluid intake, especially water, can be beneficial. This leads to frequent voiding which can help remove the bacteria. Reducing the intake of sugar and alcohol should also be tried. This is because the bacteria causing the infection feed on the sugar. Taking vitamin C is another good idea as this raises the acidity of the urine making it a more hostile environment for bacteria to grow. Once a person has a bladder infection it is quite common to have a reoccurrence. To prevent this from happening to you, practicing simple measures can help. Always going to the toilet when you feel the need to go will decrease the amount of time that bacteria are able to grow in the bladder. Practicing good hygiene in the genital area is also important including wiping from front to back when going to the toilet. This will decrease the risk of spreading bacteria. Drinking cranberry juice can also be used as a home remedy to prevent bladder infection.

Colds and Flu Couple of Unusual But Highly Effective Remedies

All the while we're not suffering from a cold or the 'flu most of us don't give a thought to prevention. That's only human. But when we are struck down with the dreaded common cold or 'flu virus then we're desperate to find a quick cure to get rid of the sniffles, the shivers, the head aches and all the other unwanted baggage that accompanies it. And that's only human, too. We'll take a glimpse at a highly unusual but effective way of keeping colds and 'flu away in a moment, but first let's look at a couple of remedies that you probably haven't come across before. Both focus on the fact that when the cold or 'flu germs enter your body they immediately lodge themselves in the membranes of your nose. Your immune system then resists them by releasing inflammatory mediators. These in turn cause excessive mucus gland secretion, which blocks the sinuses, leading to a runny nose and all the other unpleasant symptoms of a cold or the 'flu.

So if you want to take direct action against the virus or germs that are attacking you, the battleground is inside your nose. But conventional medicine tends to ignore this obvious fact, preferring instead to concentrate on drink potions, pills, and similar oral treatments. This oblique, or indirect, way of tackling the problem means, among other things, that even if the remedy works it takes longer than the remedies we're about to consider. The first one makes use of an everyday household substance you've almost certainly heard of - sodium bicarbonate. Pour a little warm water into a dish and add a level teaspoon of your sodium bicarbonate. Stir it well and then immerse your nose and surrounding parts of your face into it. Slowly breathe the water up your nose until it reaches the point where it begins to overflow into your mouth. Then expel it and rinse your mouth out.

Be careful not to add more than a teaspoonful to the water, and that the dish is of a size that enables you to fit your face into. If the mixture is too strong it will sting your nose for a while. A little trial and error will tell you how warm the water should be, which is warm enough but not hot. Do this three times a day, and it should see off even the heaviest of colds well ahead of time. The next method is to fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water. Tilt your head back and spray it into your nostrils. It will bubble up and help to kill the bacteria in your nose. Hold for a few minutes and then blow your nose into a tissue.

Incidentally, you can then use the mixture to disinfect your bathroom without harming your septic system, unlike bleach and most other disinfectants. Just spray shelves, window sills, handles, and anything else where germs are liable to be found. So those are the two methods either of which you can try next time you feel yourself going down with the 'flu or common cold. But before that happens, you may like to try a little cold and 'flu prevention each day. This is similar to the first remedy I outlined just now, but instead of breathing up a mixture of warm water and sodium bicarbonate you breathe up moderately cool, mildly salted water. Do this once each morning and you stand an excellent chance of avoiding any common cold and 'flu germs that may come your way.

I could not even get at least one sale in one day or two days. I was frustrated with my skin and I felt like ripping it off. Until i found the best acne treatment for men.

So, then I started looking in the internet for acne treatment for men. I was then came upon a remedy that changed my life forever. The remedy was simple did not take that much time or money. Let me remind you that I have tried Proactive, Murad, Acne Free, Clearsil, Neutragena, and everything else that promises you clear skin. The remedy included Baking Soda, and a hot rag or towel. I would then start off with the baking soda. I would make the baking soda into a paste by mixing it with a little bit of water. The remedy said to apply to affected areas. My whole face was affected so I just had to apply the paste to my whole face. Every night I would apply this paste. The paste drys your pimples out leaving them to look and feel like frozen little mountains. Don't worry they will only look like this with the paste on. So every morning I would wash off the paste because it drys up into sort of like a facial mask. Once I wash my face it feels refreshing and almost all pimples are washed off along with baking soda.

I would then cover my face with a hot cloth. This hot cloth will open my pores, which some people think its a bad thing but it will allow for the dirt in my pores to wash away. I would do this about everyday or every other day. On the 2nd week my skin was completed clear. I did not have to use lotion on my face anymore, I did not have to go through a 30 min 3 step process to wash my face. By far this was an amazing acne treatment for men. I just followed those instructions on the remedy and had clear skin within 2 weeks. For me this was the best acne treatment for men. I think everyone should know this method it can work for anybody. Thanks to this remedy I now have clear skin.

What Is It? : Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that is concerned with the skin's oil glands. In layman's language, acne is bad skin. These are spots that we call by another name - pimples. Acne is caused by a multitude of reasons. It mostly erupts on the face and the neck but at times also afflicts the back, chest and shoulders. The Relationship Between Acne And Depression

Acne is just another disease that society comes to accept. The teenage kid or adult with acne is seen as normal by others. Disease is a normal part of humans and people are very understanding when this is seen. However acne sufferers fail to see this in a lot of circumstances and often it leads to a depression. That level of depression does vary and it can be mild or severe, often depending entirely on the individual. Sadly depression led on by acne has led to suicide and other problems in the past. The main thing to be noted is even those with severe acne are accepted by there friends just as they were before and people still see them as the same person. Acne is also no where near as serious as other diseases and conditions such as cancer.

Here is some advice on how to stay positive with acne:
1. Acne is usually short term compared to a lot of other diseases.
2. Acne does not lead to any other problems of the human body. It is not life threatening.
3. There have been millions of dollars spent by major companies researching acne cures. Chances are a cure will help your acne.

As an acne sufferer for a few years i know how it is to wake up in the morning and not be happy with what you see in the mirror. Make sure you put it in perspective and that is it is not a major issue and it is not life threatening. Continue to live life as you would without it.

Over Washing Can Worsen The Appearance Of Acne

As a long time acne sufferer from my teenage years and early adult years I feel it is important I pass on some good information that I learns through having it. One common misconception is that the cleaner your skin is the less acne you will have. Well it is good to have clean skin as it sure does help, but washing your face once in the morning with a cleanser is clean enough.

Here are some reasons why washing your face with an acne cleanser once is enough:
1. When washing face with cleanser more than once per day the skin becomes more greasy. As pores open up further and this makes your skin more susceptible to acne. With less washing the pores become tighter and less greasy and this is what is needed to make your skin less susceptible to acne. A good practice to making pores smaller is to wash your face in cold water.
2. By doing it once a day, as for me it was in the morning the cleanser will have more of an impact. The skin can build up a resistance to over washing and the cleanser but this is less likely to happen by washing once per day.
Washing your face once a day and having a shower at night is more than clean enough to help you in your fight with acne. You must focus on other areas which contribute such as eating healthy, exercising and sleeping well. Also high zinc and fish oil tablets will go a long way to helping you beat the disease of the skin. I have been through this before and tried not washing and washing my face a lot. The best is once a day, not counting showers and shaving.
Make sure to use warm water before you put the acne cleanser on and cold water to take it off as this makes sure no dust or dirt gets in to your skin after you have finishing washing your face or back.

Do You Have Tension or Migraine Headaches ?

Nearly everyone has had a headache. But, there are some people that have learned how to eliminate them and during the year they might have one or two. Most of these headaches are usually related to stress, depression or anxiety. The most common type of headache is a tension headache. Tension headaches are due to tightening of muscles in your shoulders, neck, scalp and jaw. You are most likely to get tension headaches if you work too much, don't get enough sleep, miss meals or use of alcohol. Very few headaches have serious underlying causes, but those that do require urgent medical attention. For example, a severe headache may be a sign of meningitis. Then there are the most common headaches in women - the migraine headaches. Migraines can originate from some brain disorder, from neck vertebrae shifting, or from anxiety. In elderly people, a headache with tenderness of the scalp or temple may be due to temporal arthritis, in which blood vessels in the head become inflamed.

Now, why is it that headaches become a common problem among people? They become a common problem since they affect our daily routine. A mild or severe headache is a nuisance, which takes the joy out of life. Once you have a headache, you became agitated and irritable it becomes hard for you to focus on what you're doing. Headaches decrease your awareness and give you tunnel vision - vision where you are concentrating your pain and not what is happening around you. According to a recent survey, seven out of ten people have at least one headache a year. The majority of headaches last for only a few hours, but some can persist for weeks. Migraine headaches are the most severe headaches, which can last all day and can occur everyday. Nearly forty-five million Americans suffers from chronic headaches and most of these headaches cost billions of dollars in lost productivity every year and plenty of misery.

A majority of headaches come from anxiety and neurosis. I know many people will deny that they are neurotic, but this does not change that fact that they are. Denial is the first signs of neurosis. People don't know how neurotic or how much stress or anxiety they have. They go day by day stressing over their day job, their children, their school, and the relationships they have. Stress causes neck and shoulder muscle tension causing imbalances in the muscles holding the neck vertebra in place. This can lead to simple or severe headaches. If you have re-occurring headaches, take time to get a shoulder and neck massages every once in a while. Compliment this with getting a chiropractic neck adjustment to release the muscle imbalances that can cause your headaches. Headaches can have many causes, but serious causes of headaches are rare. Sometimes headaches warn of a more serious disorder. But, if you have a sudden or severe headache, it is best to seek medical help right away to see if it is related to a serious disorder or just related to your unhealthy lifestyle.

Natural Treatment for Cold Sores

Cold sores are an unpleasant condition caused by the herpes simplex virus. While it remains in the body permanently, most of the time in a dormant state, there are steps we can take to prevent reoccurrence of the lesions. The drug companies have several OTC and prescription medicines available for treatment that deal with the symptoms; but there are also natural remedies available - treatment for cold sores that can prevent them reoccurring by helping strengthen the immune system.

Lysine is an essential amino acid, required by the body which cannot synthesize it itself and therefore requires we get it through food sources. It is used to make protein, which is required to produce hormones, enzymes, antibodies, and body tissue. Food sources such as red meat, eggs, milk, cheese and yeast all provide lysine, which has been linked to keeping cold sore outbreaks at bay. However, there is another essential amino acid that has the opposite effect; too much arginine in the diet has been demonstrated to raise the risk of an attack, which may be due to an imbalance between lysine and arginine. Dietary changes can therefore certainly help to reduce the frequency and duration of cold sores, which can also be treated with lysine supplements to aid healing, or lysine based ointment.

One treatment that is popular in Europe due to its effectiveness is lemon balm. A member of the mint family, lemon balm can reduce the severity and duration of an attack and is believed to decrease the tendency of cold sore reoccurrence. This treatment is not widely available in the United States however. Looking to traditional eastern medicine, we find that Reishi, a type of mushroom found in Asia, is commonly used in the treatment of cold sores by strengthening the immune system. Available in the form of powder, it is advisable to see your doctor because it thins the blood and prevents clotting and should therefore not be used in conjunction with medicines such as aspirin. Reishi can also be used with Astragalus, a kind of herb. It also helps associated with boosting the immune system.

Home Health Care - Staying Healthy When You Are The Caregiver

Caregivers are expected to be strong and healthy, but what happens if the caregiver gets sick? As the operator of a home care agency, I could always tell when a caregiver who was calling on the phone to order service was at a breaking point. Their voices were very stressed and they were almost in a panic. Often, as they described their situation, you could hear the tears welling up inside of them. These were individuals who have taken on a tremendous load and were in need of support. Unfortunately, they waited too long and the stress of being a caregiver had already taken its toll, but it does not have to be that way. If you are the primary caregiver of older parents or an ailing spouse, you need to be very careful not to let the situation overwhelm you. While this sounds easier said than done, there are steps you can take to prevent burnout. Here are a few points that can help.

1. Look for help. Allow others to help and don't feel that you have to be the one to do everything. There are numerous ways to get help for your loved one depending on your needs, location and financial situation. Here are a few:

1. Contact the Office on Aging and ask about respite programs. Usually, most counties have programs that will pay for a limited number of hours of home care services, free of charge. This program is designed to give you a break and allow you to get out of the house.
2. If you qualify for Medicaid, there may be programs available which would pay for either home care or adult day care services.
3. If the person has a serious illness, consider hiring hospice. You do not have to wait until the illness is at the end stages to get help.
4. Ask relatives or close friends to help out.

2. Get some exercise. Exercise can help you reduces stress, keep your body strong, strengthen your immune system and just make you feel good. Some of the best exercises are walking or biking. These are easy to do, gets your heart rate into the aerobic zone, burns calories and gives you a chance to clear your head. Some excellent mind/body exercises include yoga, tai chi and Qi gong. Make time to exercise and you will reap the rewards.
3. Eat well. Like exercise, eating a well balanced diet helps you feel good, helps avoid being sick and gives you the energy you need to be a caregiver.
4. Learn relaxation techniques. Deep breathing, meditation and some of the mind/body exercise mentioned above can be tremendously helpful. An easy breathing technique is to inhale through your nose four a count of four, filling your belly with air, not your chest. Hold your breath for a count of seven and then exhale through your mouth for a count of eight. Do a few repetitions at a time. This can really help calm the nerves when practiced regularly.
5. Get an adequate amount of sleep. The fastest way to get run down is never getting enough sleep. If you find you are caring for your loved one at night, try to hire a person for overnights if this is possible. If you have siblings, ask them to chip in financially if they are not able to share some of the actual hands on care.

First Aid Burn Care

Burns are classified in order of their severity and involvement in the tissues of the body; the classifications are: first, second and third degree burns. First aid for burns is specific to the burn injury. First aid for burns varies slightly from the less serious burns to the severe. Second degree burns can be as severe as some third degree burns if they cover a major portion of the body, or on tender areas of the arms, hands and feet.

First aid for burns in the first degree First degree burns involve the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin. This layer is like a raincoat. The epidermis is the layer that keeps all the body fluids within the body and keeps bacteria and all the elements outside the body from entering. In a first degree burn the epidermis has not been injured very badly, it is to be considered a minor burn unless the burn involves sensitive areas such as the face, groin, buttocks, or the hands and feet. The first objective is to get away from the source of heat, and then cool the burn. Run cool water over the burn or place a cool compress over it. Cooling the burn prevents swelling and thus helps to relieve pain.

First aid for burns of the second degree : Second degree burns penetrate down to the dermis, which is the second layer of skin. There is a layer of fluid that collects between the epidermis and the dermis, which causes blistering. Severe pain is associated with a second degree burn due to swelling. As with the first degree burns the first aid for burns are the same. Remove yourself from the source of the burn. Run water over the burn or if that isn't feasible, place moist towels over the burn for 15 minutes to cool reduce the swelling and cool the burn. If the second degree burn is larger than 3 inches treat it as a major burn, especially if the burn is on the face, hands, feet, buttocks, groin or major joint. Large second degree burns should be treated like an emergency. Dial 911 and get medical help immediately.

First aid for burns of the third degree : Third degree burns are usually painless because the nerve endings have been burned away. You may not know initially how badly burned you may be. The burn will have penetrated the skin and fatty layer, and may be even more involved. Third degree burns can go down to the muscle layers and even to the bone. Some professionals categorize burns that penetrate to the bone as fourth degree burns.

How To Treat Burns

If you are caring for someone who has been burned be reassuring. The one rule of thumb in how to treat burns is to cool the burn. Panicking is the last thing you want to do, because the victim needs to believe you know how to treat burns. People who are burned may be very irritable; try to be their source of comfort. Don't ask them if they are in pain; you know they are. Burns hurt. The only burns that don't hurt are third degree burns, which are medical emergencies. If you are the person to take charge of a situation where someone is burned, assess the situation and act accordingly. If the burn is severe enough to warrant emergency care, dial 911.

How do you know the severity of a burn? Part of knowing how to treat burns is knowing how to judge the severity of the burn injury. You will need to know how to classify what degree of a burn you are treating. First degree burns red and there may also be swelling present. The skin is not broken; only the top layer of skin is burned. There is no blistering in a first degree burn. Second degree burns are more serious than first degree burns because there is blistering. The epidermis (outer layer) and the dermis (inner layer) of skin are burned. Fluid leaves the cells of these layers and collects between the two layers which cause blistering. A second degree burn is characterized by blistering and severe pain. A large area of skin involved in a second degree burn is serious enough to need emergency care. Part of knowing how to treat burns is realizing when outside medical care is necessary.

Calling 911 for emergency medical care is the first step in how to treat third degree burns. Get help on the way and then deal with the victim. Be calm yourself and do not do or say anything to upset the victim any more than he/she already is. Watch for signs of shock. If the victim looks pale and becomes cold and clammy shock is setting in. Get the victim to the floor and elevate his/her feet and legs above the heart. Shock is a medical emergency and treating shock is an important part of how to treat burns.

Internal and External Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids come in two basic kinds, internal and external.
Internal hemorrhoids are actually on the hemorrhoidal cushions, inside the anal canal, and you generally don't know that they're there until either they start bleeding or they prolapse, which means to poke outside the body. Prolapsed internal hemorrhoids are a very, very bad thing, especially if they won't stay inside the body after a bowel movement, because the powerful anal sphincter can strangulate them and start causing them to go gangrenous. However, most internal hemorrhoids are the garden variety that will subside on their own if treated properly, and, as a bonus, they generally don't hurt badly as they're in a part of the body without many nerves. External hemorrhoids, which occur on the outside of the body, are a whole different matter in the pain department. They don't occur on the hemorrhoidal cushions themselves, but rather on the veins that run below them before going back up to the heart. What they do occur on, however, is the extremely sensitive and dense band of nerves that serves to keep the anal sphincter closed. For this reason, external hemorrhoids can make anyone's life absolutely miserable. Itchiness, pain and bleeding are all symptoms of hemorrhoids, as is an occasional mucus discharge from the general inflammation of the area.

Why is this important to know? The home treatment you choose is highly dependent on the type of hemorrhoid you have. External hemorrhoids can be treated by a whole of different creams and solutions that can be easily applied. Internal hemorrhoids cannot be treated so easily, as placing the cream or solution into your rectum, or onto a prolapsed hemorrhoid, means you are placing it on the digestive membranes - the mucus membranes. Anything placed on the digestive membranes is far more quickly and far more readily absorbed by the body. So a cream strong enough to take out an external hemorrhoid, is considered way overpowered for an internal or prolapsed one. In fact, the risks are so great that NO drug company has succeeded in making a cream which the FDA considers safe for human use. Think about it, would you consider swallowing the hemorrhoid cream or solution? No you wouldn't and there are probably warnings about taking it by mouth. Sticking it into your bottom is almost the same as putting it into your mouth.

Alkaline Foods and Health Drinks To Bounce Back From A Cold

Bouncing back from a cold by consuming more alkaline foods and health drinks can give you an energetic fresh start. This year's cold and flu season seems to be hitting harder than usual. The good news is that when it's over, your body is cleaner, leaner and should function better, assuming you don't start piling in the junk again. Here is a good way to get back your energy and create better health than you had before the cold hit. First, let the cold run its course. It is really your body's way of eliminating toxins that have built up over time. Don't try to stifle the runny nose and coughs with antihistamines or other drugs that only delay the inevitable. If you slow the process down, then you are only prolonging the pain, and you may not get the full benefit of a natural cleanse. In my experience, a good, cleansing cold lasts about 7-10 days. Think of it as a natural cleanse. Then, get more out of the recovery with alkaline foods and natural health drinks. When you feel like the cold is starting to disappear, you will probably feel that it is time to start some fresh, new healthy habits. One of the best things you can do after a cold is develop healthier eating habits. A good way to do that is by including more alkaline foods and health drinks in your diet. This means, consume more foods that form an alkaline ash in the bloodstream after they are digested and burned for fuel.

* What are alkaline foods that help you bounce back from a cold? Think about fresh fruits and vegetables, natural foods that are lower in animal protein, health drinks without sugar or artificial sweeteners and food grade herbs, not medicinal herbs.
* Some of the more common acid forming foods can be caffeine, chocolate, beef, pork, fish, alcohol, soda, even beans and rice.

Experts recommend that your daily alkaline food intake should be about 80% of your diet, compared with only 20% acid forming foods. The theory is, and I think it does hold water, that it is harder for illness and disease to take hold in a more alkaline environment. Through a great deal of research, and personal experience, I have discovered numerous health benefits with more alkaline foods in my diet. By maintaining that 80/20 ratio, I have experienced fewer arthritic pains and digestive problems. Also, by adding health drinks that are less acid forming, I feel better knowing that my body has the tools it needs to work on other issues such as eliminating toxins, rather than constantly struggling just to maintain internal pH balance.
